Jake Lee: Vineyard Workers in Sonoma County

Chinese tending vineyards and orchards in Sonoma County where wine caves were dug in Limestone Hills. Laborers helped lay the foundation of viticulture in the early days of the Sonona and Napa Valleys in California. Levees and irrigation channels using techniques learned in China’s Pearl River Delta were used in the swampy, flood prone junction of the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers. Chinese knowledge of agriculture, ingenuity and labor created one of America’s most productive farming regions.
